The All Importance Of Understanding The Spiritual Body of Christ

From the teaching, 6/25/11

The All Importance
Of Understanding The
Spiritual Body of Christ

TEXT: Matthew 16:18: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock
I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Eph. 2:19: Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens
with the saints, and of the household of God;

20And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself
being the chief corner stone;

Luke 24:49: And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the
city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts. 1:1:The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to
do and teach,

2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given
commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs,
being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of
God:

4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not
depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have
heard of me.

5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not
many days hence.

6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at
this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the
Father hath put in his own power.

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall
be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.

9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud
received him out of their sight.

Acts 2:1; And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord
in one place.

2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it
filled all the house where they were sitting.

3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of
them.

4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under
heaven.

6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded,
because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

Mt. 3:11: I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is
mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy
Ghost, and with fire:

Acts 2:42: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, and in prayers.

The Apostle Paul understood the Body Of Christ, more than any of the other
writers of the New Testament, because he was given the revelation on it. His first
mention of the Body Of Christ is in Romans 12:4-5. There he speaks of being Baptized
into The Body.

I Corth. 12:13: For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews
or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit
and...

:18: But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased
him.

           1. arranged according to His plan
           2. as He chooses

Long Life

Long Life

Gen. 1:26: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let
them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the
cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

And...
:9:As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid
thereon, and bread.

10Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

11Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and
fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

12Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who
art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

13Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

14This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was
risen from the dead.

Psa. 103:5: Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like
the eagle's.

Psa. 91:16: With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Rom. 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin
and death.

Rev. 22:1: And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding
out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life,
which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of
the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Power In The Hands

From the teaching 8/6/11

Power In The Hands

What is in the hands of one chosen by God?

Ex. 17:9: And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with
Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

10So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron,
and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

11And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he
let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

12But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat
thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other
on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

13And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

Hand (defined):

1. a means or instrument
2. power
3. direction
4. dominion
5. with strength
6. fellowship (right hands of fellowship Gal.2:9)

Reason To Clap The Hands:

Psalm 47:1: O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

Reasons of Clapping of the Hands:

1. a sign of triumph
2. synonymous with victory
3. in agreement or approval
4. for joy
5. expression of praise to God
6. because of Truth
7. because God is Great
8. for rhythm (you feel a part of the music)
9. manifestation of what you feel inside

I Tim. 2:8: I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without
wrath and doubting.

Instruction To The Eleven

Mark 16:14:Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided
them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which
had seen him after he was risen.

15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature.

16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be
damned.

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues;

18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat
on the right hand of God.

20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and
confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Instruction to the appointed Seventy

Luke 10:1:After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two
and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

And...

:17: And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject
unto us through thy name.
18And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather
rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Acts 19:11:And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the
diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

I Tim 4:14: Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with
the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

15Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may
appear to all.

II Tim. 1:6: Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which
is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Mt. 9:36: But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them,
because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

When Jesus said..
“My name is Legion” (explained): Among the Romans, a legion was primarily a

3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming
in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said
unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee
what thou oughtest to do.

Rev. 22:17: And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come.
And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life
freely.

Holy Ghost Upon-
Holy Ghost Within

The Spirit upon is willed by God. The Spirit within is willed by Man

Gen. 1:1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Judges 13:24: (an example of the Spirit upon) And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

25And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Double Portion of Elijah's Spirit given to Elisha

II Kings 2:8: And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
 13He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

Illustration of Double Portion

Elijah-multiplies the mill and oil in widow woman's house.

I Kings 17:9: Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

Elisha-increase of widow's oil

II Kings 4:1: Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
3Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

The double portion was that Elisha did 32 miracles and Elijah did 16

A Dead Man revived after being thrown on Elisha's bones

II Kings 13:20: And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

21And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

At Jesus' Baptism: The Spirit upon Him

John 1:32: And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

John 5:30: I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Luke 24:49: And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Tarry (defined):

              1. to seat down
              2. to settle
              3. continue

Endued (defined):

              1. armed with
              2. invested with

John 14:16: And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Acts 1:4:And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

And...

:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:1: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

Acts 2:14:But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
 16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

And...

36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
